Do you ever get the feeling a journey is taking forever, only to realise before you know it you have reached your destination?
This happened to me recently on a “long” drive I’d taken countless times before. This time, though, it felt different. Shorter, even!
Turns out, the secret wasn’t a magical new car or scenic shortcut. It was perspective.
For the past year, I’ve been making similar (slightly shorter) trips in that direction – enjoyable conversations in the car with my child. This trip, I started noticing familiar landmarks, and before I knew it, we were almost there.
The same happens in life. We all face challenges, be it health, relationships, work, finances, thought life or loved ones’ struggles. They can feel overwhelming, endless, insurmountable, like we’re stuck on a journey that will never end.
Grumble our way through, stewing in negativity, or…
Rejoice in the journey, focusing on the positive, savoring the little moments.
Think of that “long” drive. What if, instead of dreading it, we:
- Appreciated the scenery: noticed the changing landscape, listened to the music, or enjoyed the company.
- Reflected on progress: acknowledged how far we’ve come, not just how far we have to go.
- Trusted the destination: believed that despite the traffic, we would eventually reach our goal.
This shift in perspective doesn’t make problems disappear, but it changes how we experience them. ✨
Remember:
- Growing endurance: By choosing joy over grumbling, we build resilience for future challenges.
Be joyful in hope, patient in affliction, faithful in prayer.
Rom 12:12
- God dearly loves you: Whatever you’re facing, know you’re not alone.
So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.
Is 41:10
- Choose to rejoice: It’s a powerful tool to transform your journey, one mile (or problem) at a time.
Rejoice always, pray continually, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.
1 Thess 5:16-18
So, the next time you feel stuck in life’s traffic, try shifting gears. Look for what God is doing, trust in Him, and choose to rejoice. You might be surprised how much shorter the road feels.
