Imagine a world where kindness spreads like dandelion seeds, carried by the wind to take root and blossom everywhere. That’s the power we hold in our mouths – the power to choose to release kindness and create a ripple effect touching countless lives. All possible because of the love our Father has lavished on us (1 John 4:19).
Kindness: A Choice Rooted in Faith
Kindness isn’t always easy, but it’s a choice we can make every day.
Be kind and compassionate to one another…
Ephesians 4:32
This isn’t just a nice suggestion; it’s a call to action. Look at what comes before this! We are to avoid “unwholesome talk” and to instead speak words that “build others up according to their needs.” Choosing kindness means letting go of anger, bitterness, and unforgiveness and choosing to extend love to others.
Kindness: Inspired by God’s Love
The most incredible act of kindness the world has ever seen is God sending His Son, Jesus Christ, to die for our sins. This extravagant display of love should inspire our own acts of kindness. We love because He first loved us.
Kindness: Choosing our Words Wisely
Your words have power. They can build others up or tear them down. James reminds us:
A word out of your mouth may seem of no account, but it can accomplish nearly anything—or destroy it! It only takes a spark, remember, to set off a forest fire.
James 3:5-6 MSG
We are called to a higher standard. We are called to choose kindness because we have experienced the ultimate act of kindness ourselves – God’s love for us in Jesus Christ. His sacrifice offers forgiveness and sets us free.
- Choose kindness in your words and actions.
- Choose to build others up and encourage them.
- Choose forgiveness and freedom for yourself and others.
- Choose life by spreading God’s love to others.
